A ceremony of wearing armor in the beginning of the year

The ceremony is based on a Kamakura period tradition, where at the beginning of a new year a meeting and parade was held, dressed in armor. We use armors that are used in a movie or TV drama (NHK’s Taiga Drama).

The ceremony is always held on the ‘coming-of-age’ national holiday, the second Sunday of January, in the Nihon Budokan. A group of around 70 people is being dressed in O-yoroi and do-maru armor by some experts, and during the ceremony, also an ancient custom called ‘kagami-biraki’ is performed.

A member has priority to participate in this event for free, but the number of people who can participate is limited.
